BBC DIY SOS – The Hessle Build
It was fantastic to watch last night’s episode of the BBC DIY SOS Hessle Build which we recently helped with. It was great to see the end result of everyone’s hard work for such a beautiful family. What a great experience it was to be involved with this build.
How we got involved
After seeing the request for volunteers via the BBC Twitter feed we got in touch to find out more. We went along to the trades day where members of the DIY SOS team explained a bit more about the project & what they needed on the double glazing side of the project.
They needed uPVC windows, a set of uPVC patio doors for the lads den, Aluminium Bi-folding doors for the kitchen area & a new composite door for the front with easier access, more privacy and security.
We got in touch with our suppliers and they were all happy to supply materials and products free of charge, so thank you to Reynaers for the Aluminium for us to make the Bi-folders, Kommerling for all the uPVC, Solidor for the gorgeous front door & Discount Glass for all the glass.
Only 9 Days to complete!
The pressure was on because of the short timescales they really have to complete from start to finish in 9 days. This meant we only had a few days to order & make the windows & doors because we didn’t know until just before what some of the sizes were. We had to hope everything fitted on the day because there wasn’t time to remake & no one wants to hold up any of the other tradesmen.
Our fitters had a great time on site, the comradery between all the trades was inspirational & heart warming. They said they have never eaten so much whilst at work too, bacon butties, hot dinners & loads of cake.
Reveal Day
The reveal day was amazing. We all went along together & had the chance to meet Darren & his family. It was very emotional but so uplifting. Nick Knowles & the team were brilliant at organising us all for the filming. They also allowed everyone plenty of time afterwards for the photo shoots!!
What a positive experience for everyone as it reminded us what fantastic results can be achieved when enough people come together & offer what ever they can be it materials or time.
